Journey To The Cross: The Third Sunday Of Lent

By his resurrection he has overcome death so that he might make us share in the righteousness he won for us by his death. By his power we too are already now resurrected to a new life. Christ’s resurrection is a guarantee of our glorious resurrection. [HEIDELBERG Q.45]

Jesus Christ is the hope of God’s world. In his death, the justice of God is established; forgiveness of sin is proclaimed. On the day of his resurrection, the tomb was empty; his disciples saw him; death was defeated; new life had come. God’s purpose for the world was sealed. [OUR SONG OF HOPE, ST. 4]

Man of Sorrows! what a name
For the Son of God,
Who came Ruined sinners to reclaim.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Bearing shame and scoffing rude,
In my place condemned He stood;
Sealed my pardon with His blood.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Guilty, vile, and helpless we;
Spotless Lamb of God was He;
Full atonement can it be?
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Lifted up was He to die;
“It is finished!” was His cry;
Now in heaven exalted high.
Hallelujah! What a Savior!

When He comes, our glorious King,
All His ransomed home to bring,
Then anew His song we’ll sing:
Hallelujah! What a Savior!
